Poor Charlie’s Almanaclk

Peter Kaufman

  • 5/5
  • Finished 2024
  • Memoir

A book about the great Charlie Munger - it’s actually more a collection of his writings/public speeches. Not just focused on business, there are chapters on psychology, human nature, investing, so it makes for a fascinating read. Would highly recommend.

  • Prescription for good life was what NOT to do:
    • Ingesting chemicals in an effort to alter mood or perception
    • envy
    • resentment
    • be unreliable
    • learn only from your own experiences
    • go down + stay down when you get your 1st/2nd/3rd reverse in the battle of life
  • Advice for young people:
    • don’t sell anything you wouldn’t buy yourself
    • don’t work for anyone you don’t respect + admire
    • work only with people you enjoy
  • To get what you want, try to deserve what you want
  • What to Look for in a Partner (Warren Buffett):
    • Someone smarter and wiser than you.
    • Someone who will never second-guess you nor sulk when you make expensive mistakes.
    • A generous soul who will put up his own money and work for peanuts.
    • Someone who will constantly add to the run as you travel a long road together.
